hospitals bill. LABOUR MOTION DEFEATED. THIRD READING PASSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The third reading of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill was moved in the House to-day by the Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health. .Mr W. Nash (Labour —llutt) moved that the bill he recommitted to enable reconsideration of the clauses relating to setting up commissions and providing power by Urder-in-Gouncil to close institutions and restrict services if recommended by the commissions. .Mr Nash’s motion was defeated by 39 votes to 17. .Messrs 11. M. Rushworth, G. A. Wilkinson and A. E. Jull joined Labobr members in voting- for it. The bill was read a third time and passed. URBAN LANDS BILL. THIRD READING PASSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTUN, Thursday. The' Committee stage of the Urban Farm Lands Hating Bill was resumed in the House this evening, and the short title, which had been under discussion, for some time at the previous sitting, was passed with further debate. The hill was put through Committee without amendment, read a third time and passed.

MORTGAGORS’ RELIEF. ADDITIONAL AM ENDM EN T. 9 (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WE L LIN G T ON, Thursday. An amendment to the Mortgagors and Tenants’ Further Relief Bill, which lias already been passed by the House, was introduced by Governor-General's message to-day. The Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, said the object of the amendment was to extend the protection of the main Act to leases executed before the passing of that Act. The mailer was one of urgency, because several cases of hardship had arisen.

Mr A. Harris (Government —Waitemata) asked whether the amendment applied to guarantors of leases. Mr Cobbo said guarantors were already protected under the bill. The amendment was adopted. The Legisative Council considered the bill In Committee. The Leader, Sir James Parr, said the measure was designed to clear up anomalies. It had been found that in some instances mortgagors had contracted themselves out of the provisions of the original legislation and it was desired to give j?them the protection to which they were entitled. The bill was passed through all stages without amendment. The Gounoil later considered the amendment made, in the House to-day. It Was agreed to without discussion.

[MUNICIPAL MATTER’S. PROGRESS OP BILLS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Committee stage of the Municipal Corporations Bill, was commenced in the House this evening. Mr w. Nash (Labour —Hull) slated that local bodies had not yet had a reasonable opportunity for examining the measure. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon., A. Hamilton, said there was no intention to rush the measure through the House. Members could express their views on the short title. The bit! would have to go through this year, lull, he was not particular whether tho short litlo was passed or not during thd present silling. It was not proposed lo deal with Ihe other clauses uniil later.

The Municipal Association Rill, which is designed to establish tire Municipal Association as a body corporate. was put through committee without amendment, read a third time and passed. UNEMPLOYED WOMEN. POSITION AT CHRISTMAS. WCLLINGTON, Thursday. In n question in Hie House 10-day Mr A. S’. Richards (Labour —RosUtli) asked whether a grant would he made from the unemployment .fund for the relief of unemployed women during Christmas. The lion. A. Hamilton said that Ibis would not lie possible, but the usual forms of relief would be continued. Replying to a further question by Mr Richards, Air Hamilton said lie would be pleased to make inquiries into the possibility of U'i men being placed in work or given sustenance.
