The finances of the Malakaoa County continue criiical, Hie recent prosecutions of defaulting ratepayers being practically without result. The Government lias offered to pay the half-yearly interest hill due shortly in London, but the Council resolved that unless the Minister of Internal Affairs ciift provide funds for the county olerk and reasonable oltlce expenses, tliero is no alternative to closing the olllcc.
