Balance-Sheets Investigated. —The Advertising Association’s Research Department lias been engaged jn investigating the balance-sheets and profit and loss accounts of the leading English businesses with a view to discovering how far success and advertising go together. The figures of IGG-i large companies whose reports were issued during the twelve months ended April 15, 10.T2, have been examined. Of these, 313 increased their prool s. A further IBS show a decline of less than 1C per cent, on the previous year’s profits. Of this total of i 52 no fewer Ilian SK, or almost 70 per cent., are concerns which advertise. 'Here we have a clear 'indication Unit businesses which have the courage to keep up or increase 'their advertising in times of depression stand more ihan twice as good a chance, of main--1,-lining or increasing their profits than those which do not.
