CAMBRIDGE TERRITORIALS

SOCIAL FOR LADIES’ COMMITTEE. The Cambridge Territorial Club held a successful social evening in the Arawa Lodge Hall oh Tuesday evening. The function was arranged by the officers and men of the local platoon for the ladles’ committee in appreciation of their magnificent service in connection with the recent military 'ball. There was an attendance of about 70, the guests being received by Lieutenant and Mrs It. R- A- Ghalhner and Staff-corporal and Mrs T. D. Brav of Hamilton. The evening was spent in dancing and cards, while items were given by Misses Maud Giles, Daisy Giles, Kath. Goodwin, S. Carson and Mr L. Darker. During the evening the platoon commander, Lieut. Challincr, welcomed all present on belialf of the Waikato Regiment, and paid high tribute Lo the work of the ladies’ committee at the recent, ball. Tire lieutenant said I hat military halls had been organised elsewhere as a. result of the Cambridge fund ion, the. success of which had spread all over the province. ... Lieutenant Challincr referred to the fine spirit of enthusiasm that was manifest in the Cambridge A olunteers, and spoke of the good work being done for the men by Corporal Bray, of the permanent staff. Later a number of demonstrations were given by the local platoon, of the work that is being carried out *at the Drill Hall. These included physical drill, boxing, spring bayonet fighting, machine-gun drill and signalling. After supper, Mrs E. S. Bultimore returned thanks on behalf of the ladies’ committee for 'the enjoyable evening provided. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Sergeant MacDonald. The winners of the cards were Mrs T. D. Bray and Mr R. S. Entwistle.
