WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

AT OPAIAU. The November meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the Opaiau Hail on Saturday this month to allow Kawhia members to attend who otherwise could not come. Aiiss Sandilands presided, and after general business was concluded the president informed members that entries for the Raglan show should be forwarded lo Airs Warner for despatch not later Ilian next Saturday,’ tlie 20th; also that the next meeting in January would be the annual one. The roll-call, “The uses of a lemon,” brought forth many different wavs in which (his fruit can be used. ATrs Duekring brought up a number of Kawhia members, and also gave a demonstration on life-saving, which members listened io with great interest. A competition for the best loaf of bread was won by Mrs Gilmour, Airs Nicholson being second. A liring-nnd-buy stall has been started, and quite a number of articles sold. Afrs W. Scott supplied a song which was rendered most tastefully, and Mrs Cuffc supplied her usual good music. The hostesses, Alesdames Dally, Dawson, and Alisses S. and T. Randall, dispensed a delicious afternoon tea, and a most enjoyable afternoon con‘c hided with Hie singing of the National Anthem. AT NAWTON-ROTOKAURI. The Nawton-Rotokauri Women’s Institute held a very successful garden party at Airs Waters’ residence on Saturday, November 2G. The proceeds were in aid of Nawton Hall. There was a good attendance and keen interest was taken in the different croquet competitions, guessing the weight of cakes, choosing the name for the doll and guessing the number of the dinner hamper. Good business was done at the stall, also in the afternoon tea booth. In the evening, despite the rain, a good crowd attended the social and dance In the hall. The first part of the programme was given by Mrs Scott’s concert party and was enjoyed by all. Dancing and cards followed. The results of the competitions were announced after supper by Air 11. Crawford, who acted as AI.C. for the evening. Tlie winners were as follows: —The hamper. Airs Faucett; Airs AVaters cake, Air R. Chilc-olt; Airs Craig’s cake, Airs Irving, Airs Rarrett and Air Hewitt tied; the doll, Air Hewitt; the elephant, Aiiss Daisy Gaylor. The croquet compel B/ons resulted: Clock, Air L. Lawrence; golf, Mr R. Holmes; target, Airs Ridgway. Mrs Priestly and Mr Chilcott won the euchre prizes. Mr J. Elliott, chairman of the Hall Committee, proposed a vote of thanks to the members of the AVomen’s Institute. x The hall funds will benefit to the extent of £lO 10s. Mr AV. Whitehead’s orchestra supplied the dance music.
