Wonderfully Productive. —There is an area of land on the coast of Ayisliire right opposite the Mull of Kiutvre which Is wonderfully productive and where the most intensive farming Is carried on which the writer has had any experience of. The chief source of revenue is from early potatoes to supply the wants of the millions down the Clyde. The crop Is annually sold by auction as It stands, and buyers have to do all the digging, though the farmers cart lhe crop to the railway. The farms are comparatively small, from 100 to 300 acres, the rents forty years ago varied from £4 to £G per acre, ami working expenses were heavy. This year prices were evidently good, ns 30G acres averaged £6O 7s 6d per acre, and 43 acres made lrom £7t to £7O per acre. Immediately after the crop is cleared the ground is sown out in such crops as Italian ryegrass which comes in for autumn and spring feed up till May, when it is shut up for a crop of hny. ifii some of the farms a few Dorset Horn ewes are kept us a side line and l\vo lots of lambs in the year are jakrn from I hem. New Zealand lias a long road lo travel before reaching this high level of production.
