LARGER PRODUCTION.
AND LOWER COSTS. Mr \v. Buchanan-Taylor, of J. Lyons and Co., Ltd., the well-known London caterers, has some interesting observations to make in a recent issue of the Week-end Review. “As l’or the hinted refutation of the theory that, publicity lowers prices, enables larger production and lower cost, I would point to one rather convincing case,” states Mr Taylor. “Before my firm started to advertise Swiss Rolls we were selling 10,000 a week, without any greater inducement than displays in the windows and on the counters of our leashops. Now, in something like six years, the number of Swiss Rolls sold exceeds hair a million a week. (Tho price of the standard Swiss roll was originally one shilling. It is now niuepenee.) 11 Are the economists capable of realising that in the distribution of 500,000 units many more, workpeople are required Mian in the handling of' 10,000 units?"
