YOUTH’S PECULATIONS.
FARM HOUSES BURGLED. TWO YE ARTS BORSTAL. Pleas of guilty to nine charges of .theft of money from farm houses In the country districts surrounding Hamilton were made by George McVeigh, aged 17 years, in the (Hamilton Magistrate’s 'Court this morning.' The total amount involved was £4 18s. McVeigh also pleaded gullTy to stealing a wristlet watch, cigarette lighter and a tin of tobacco, of a total value of £1 Is, the 'property of Richard Douglas Pick. Constable P. Watts said he obtained a statement from the' accused last Saturday, in which he admitted the offences. Senior-Sergeant Sweeney mentioned that the accused was admitted to 'probation for 12 months last March, having been found guilty of six charges of theft. Since -then he had been working for short periods at various farms in the district. More recently he had been calling at oountry hoaises and stealing sums of money when ,lie found the occupants absent. His parents lived at Kihikihi. To Mr Wyvern Wilson S.M., who 'presided, Hie senior-sergeant said the accused’s father was a respectable man but lie was unable to control his son. 'McVeigh was ordered to be detained in a Borstal institution for two years on all charges. A further charge of stealing' £5, the propert yof Richard John Church, at Tc Rapa, was dismissed for want of prosecution. __
