MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET* REID CUP, COMPETITION. » At the fortnightly meeting of the South Auokland Crloket Association management committee Mr A. E. Gibbons presided over a good attendance of delegates. Advice was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council that the following amendment had been added to the Hawke Cup rules: “That in the event of neither side in a challenge for the Hawke Cup gaining an outright win, the side leading on the first innings ‘shall be deemed the holders of the cup.” Several members expressed their disapproval of the amendment, but it was decided to receive tha letter and bring the matter up again at the next bienniel ooni'erence of that New Zealand Cricket Association. The Taranaki association wrote advising that they would prefer thelrr dates, December 8,9, and 10, instead of South Auckland’s dates, 9, 10, and; 11, for their Hawke Cup match with, South Auckland and added that they had written to the New Zealand coun-j cil for a ruling. No reply had been received from the New Zealand CDunoil. A challenge for the South Auckland Shield was received from Piako. Tha challenge will be forwarded to Waipa, the holders of the trophy. In view of the -scarcity of entries for the Reid Cup inter-house competition it was decided to widen the scope for players. Several members thought that if two or three higher grade players were allowed to play thev would form a nucleus of a team* It was decided to allow any crioketer, except one who has represented South Auckland, to -play in the competition. Final arrangements were completed for the Hawke -Cup fixture against Taranaki on the week-end of December 10. . Mr T. A. Campbell was appointed manager of the Hawke Cup team. The secretary was instructed to write a letter of thanks to Mr William Cann, who donated a cricket bat foi: use by the Hawke Gup team.
