ALLEGED LIBEL.
£IOOO DAMAGES CLAIMED
FINANCIAL TIMES SUED.
BY WELLINGTON SHAREBROKER
(By Telegraph.—Pres; Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. An action was brought to-day by Harry Ninham Gooch, sharebroker, of Wellington and Sydney, claiming £IOOO damages for alleged libel against the New Zealand Financial Times Company, Limited, the editor of the journal, Howard Elliott, and the printer, Ernest Fraser Jones. Opening the case for the defence, counsel contended that it would be abundantly plain that Gooch was the promoter of Coal Oil (N.Z.), Limited, and that such censure and criticism as appeared in the Financial Times article was fair and proper in a financial journal and fairly attributable to Gooch. Decision was reserved.
