£IOOO DAMAGES CLAIMED. FINANCIAL TIMES SUED. BY WELLINGTON SHAREBROKER. (By Telegraph.—Pres? Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. An action was brought to-day by Harry Niniiam Gooch, sharebroker, of Wellington and Sydney, claiming £IOOO damages for alleged libel against the New Zealand Financial Times Company, Limited, the editor of the journal, Howard Elliott, and the printer, Ernest Fraser Jones. The contention is advanced that the words in an article in the Financial Times meant, and were intended to ■mean that plaintiff had tricked investors into subscribing for shares in Goal Oil (N.Z.), Ltd., that plaintiff had assisted in preparing a deliberately misleading prospectus, and had also been guilty of dishonourable and unprofessional conduct. •Defendants denied the meaning attributed to the words by plaintiff.
