MOTOR-CYCLE TESTS. HAMILTON CLUB’S EVENT. WINNER’S REMARKABLE AVERAGE An event of particular interest to’ motor-cyclists was held by the Hamilton Motor Cycle Club yesterday, when Hie club members competed in a petrol economy test. The idea of the test was to determine Hie best mileage per gallon of petrol performance. Each machine was provided with one pint of benzine. and was ridden over a carefully measured course until the pint was used up. A remarkable average was made by the winner, W. Burns, of Tamahcre, who was riding a 31 li.p. Ariel standard model. By careful tuning lie obtained a mileage average of 236 miles per gallon, after lapping the course at a steady 20 miles an hour to slop when he had covered 29 2-5 miles on the measured pint. Burns easily won the cup presented by Me. 11. Kennedy, for the best performance on handicap, and in addition lie made the best straight out average. Ollier competitors who put up good averages were A. West (2 j h.p. A.J.F.), 182 mites per gallon; A. Lester (3J h.p. Norton), 152 miles per gallon; H. Kennedy (3A h.p. Ariel),145 miles per gallon; and F. Chapman ( J.A.P.). 124 miles per gallon. The event was run on a handicap basis, and the results were as follows: — W. Burns I, A. West 2, A. Lester.
