The chairman Introduced Major Ward, Distriot 'Commissioner, and Mr V. Clark, assistant Distriot Commissioner, and expressed profound regret that the visitors should have been met with so poor a welcome after travelling such a distance. Major Ward gave a most interesting talk on the development of soouting In the Hamilton district. He asserted that In his opinion the people of Tirau were unaware of the definite harm they were doing their boys in forcing the troop out of existence by their apathy. He was convinced that oould they but realise the opportunity for doing something towards solving the present chaotic conditions obtaining among the youth of to-day, they would do everything In their power to see that the troop was again put on Its feet and kept there. He offered to send to Tirau copies of a free paper dealing with scouting, which could be circulated among parents and ethers. The Chamber of Commeroe has accorded a hearty vote of thanks to the delegation which reoently visited Wellington to give evidence relative to the petition praying that the sludge ohannel proclamation should ha revoked. The Mayor stated that he had pointed out to the oommlttes that there were 16 mountain streams in the immediate vloinlty of the petitioners’ distriot, which made it dear that they were not solely dependent on the Waihou River for a pure water supply, and where there were no streams bores had been put down. If the request of the petitioners had been given effeot to it would have put an end to mining in Te Aroha. Welcome Rain.
