HAMILTON PLAYBOX

“THESE PRETTY THINGS. One of the most successful readings of the season was given at the Hamilton Playbox last night, when “ These Pretty Things,” a faroical comedy by Gertrude Jennings, was presented before a large audience. The play—a most amusing one, with mirth-provoking situations and witty dialogue—tells of what happens when a well-meaning person attempts to get his friend out of a scrape. One complication after another ensues, to tlie discomfiture 'Of the players but lo the keen delight of the audience. At the end of the performance the readers Avere applauded very warmly

Miss h’ady' Hodgson, who lias a distinct fiair for comedy,- was very amusing as the “ simple " mannequin, Susie Parsons, and maintained a difficult character effectively throughout. Miss Maisie Hewitson, striking a deeper note, was equally successful, as Clara Broome, another mannequin. Messrs W. Russell-Wood and Greepju, as the friends who were the cause of all the trouble, filled their roles convincingly and caused much merriment. The other roles were taken very effectively by Mrs M. Thomas, Misses SJabhra Lynch, Eva Beeche, Della Clapham and Audrey Hlgginson, and Mr Walter Newth.
