ABOUT BABIES
GIVEN TOO MUCH ATTENTION ? “There is a danger of doing too much for people to-day,” said the Lord Mayor of Bedford (Eng.) recently. "Babies are better when they are left in the pram or on the hearthrug, so that they can be free to throw their legs about, than when they are fussed over and petted by their mothers. In my generation we did not have any coddling; we had to Aght our own battles, and we knew the hardships of life. But we were all the better men because we fought without help. "There were no play centres when we wore lads; we had to make our own games and play in fields, and often got chased out, but from physical, moral and other points of view It did us good."
We must not make people soft and do things for them which they oould do themselves, he added. With all the education and other services of the present time a great deal was heard of juvenile crime, and there was a tendency for young fellows to be idle and lazy, and to take everything and give nothing.
