SIR J. C. MAXWELL. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Nov. 18, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 17. The death is announced of Sir James Crawford Maxwell, GovernorGeneral of Northern Rhodesia, who embarked on tiic Oronsay on a health tour on November 12. He died at sea.

Maxwell, K.C.M.G., 1v.8.E., etc., was born in 18G9, in Dundee, lie was called to the Bar, and after holding several Important positions in Africa was appointed Go "uor-General of Northern Itiiodesi.i in 1027 —a position he held at the time of his death. MRS E. M. PATTERSON. WHANGAREI, Thursday. The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Elizabeth Maud Patterson, aged 72 years. Mrs Patterson was born at Auckland. MRS ADA H. LAWRY. TE AWAMUTU, Thursday. The death has occurred of Mrs Ada Henrietta Lawry, at the age of 78 years. Born at Huddersfield, Yorkshire, In 1854, Mrs Lawry accompanied her parents to New Zealand when only eight years of age. She was married in 1875 to Mr John Lawry. Mr and Mrs Lawry spent the first 29 years of their married life In Canterbury, and removed to the Wiakato in 1904. Mr Lawry died at Orakau in 1918, and shortly after her husband’s death Mrs Lawry came to live in Te Awamutu. She is survived by a family of two sons, Messrs T. 11. Lawry, of Korakonui, and G. B. Lawry, of Orakau, and four daughters, Mrs J. M. Cochrane, of Te Aroha, and the Misses Lawry (3), of Te Awamutu.
