The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and the Lady Bledisloe paid an official visit to Otaki on Wednesday afternoon. Canon Wilford will leave Christchurch on Wednesday week to Join the Bangttlkl at Napier. A presentation of an oak clock was made to Mr J. A. G. Fleming on the occasion of the retirement of Mr and Mrs Fleming as manager and manageress of the Geyser Hotel at Walrakel. Mr N. A. Ingram was presented with a pipe and pouch at the conclusion of the National Conference of the Sohool Committees’ Association at Wellington for acting as secretary to the conference and as an appreciation of his services to education generally. The Hon. W. Downle Stewart, Minister of Finance, will be the principal guest and speaker at the annual meeting and social evening of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association on November 29. Mr W. Machin, of Christchurch, past president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, has been re-appointed vice-pre-sident of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire. Carroll (Rotorua), and G. McGregor (Paeroa), are at the Hamilton Hotel. The resignation of Dr. W. S. Hill from the teaching staff of the Scddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland, was received by the board of managers yesterday. Dr. Hill, who lias been an agricultural Instructor at Use college since 1922, has been appointed to take over at the New Year the agricultural classes at the utahuhu District High School.
