TRADE WITH BRITAIN.

ANXIOUS TO NEGOTIATEFOREIGN COUNTRIES’ OVERTURES TREATIES DESIRED. (Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 25. The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Captain R. A. Eden, stated In the House of Commons today that sinoe the beginning of the year many countries had expressed a desire to enter into tariff negotiations with Britain. In each case It had been explained that until the Ottawa Conference ended the Government had not been in a position to enter upon such negotiations. The countries referred to Included Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Costa Rloa, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, loeland, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Santo Domingo, Sweden, Switzerland and Uruguay. Since the Ottawa Conference the Government had lndloated Its readiness to enter upon negotiations with Argentina, Denmark, loeland, Norway and Sweden. The President of the Board of Trade, Mr Walter Runclman, said that since the early part of July about 50 additional undertakings had been sel up in Britain by or with the assistance of foreign concerns, and had begun production. Questioned regarding the negotiations with France and Germany about the restrictions imposed on Imported British coal, Mr Runclman said the representations made to the French Government were directed toward securing that the British coal export trade should receive treatment not less favourable than that accorded to other countries exporting coal to France. That object had been achieved. The German Government had suggested that the question should be discussed between the two Governments.
