LAWN TENNIS.
PROTEST BY AUCKLAND. UMBRAGE TAKEN AT DECISION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Wellington Lawn Tennis Association discussed the matter of the New Zealand Association’s refusal to agree to the American team playing a match at Auckland when en route to Australia. The matter arose from a oiroular from the Auckland Association, whloh has taken umbrage at the decision. The Wellington members showed varied opinion, but the meeting decided to take no action. THE AMERICAN TEAM. VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. As the, result of a conference between the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association and Messrs R. B. Hardy and E.W. Griffiths, of the Auckland association, the parent body has agreed to matches being played in Auckland next Monday and Tuesday by the American players Vines, Allison, Van. Ryn and Gledhlll, subject to the consent of the visiting team. Providing the Australian Lawn Tennis Association is agreeable, the New Zealand Association has given permission to Auckland to arrange for the visit of an Australian team in February to play matches in Auckland and also In the country districts of the Auckland Province. ■
