SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION. THE HAMILTON BODY. ANNUAL MEETING HELD, There was a full attendance of delegates at the annual general meeting of the Hamilton Suburban Lawn Tennis Sub-Association last evening, the president (Mr J, H, Boyd) presiding. The annual report stated: Fourteen clubs, with a total membership of Mi-, were affiliated to the sub-asso-ciation, three of them being new clubs. Hillcrest was affiliated for the first time and Fairfield and St. John’s re-affiliated. The balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory position, taking into consideration the increased expenditure which was necessary to keep up with the expansion of the association. Competitions. The committee decided to Increase the scope of the tournaments by playing a C grade competition. This afforded more of the club' players an opportunity of match play and largely ■overcame the congestion of players not participating in the ‘matches. To make it more easy for a club tb field an extra team, the C teams comprised four ladies and four men. The competition in this grade was most satisfactory, the play in many cases reaching to B standard. The knock-out round, played prior to the championship series, was again a decided success. St. Peter’s Club was victorious in all three grades. The championship round was keenly contested, Unity (the newly-named St. Paul’s Club) being the ultimate winner of the A grade, while in the B grade St. Peter's were successful for the second year In succession. Hamilton East annexed the G grade cup donated by Mr Casey, this being the first time this club has been successful in inter-club competitions, The Suburban took part In the Waikato Association's banner matches, and w r ere drawn to play Lower Waikato, Unfortunately owing to Illness and unforeseen clroumstances we were unable to field our full representative team, and the result was in favour of Lower Waikato, The mixed doubles handicap tournament continues to be a Very popular affair, and Was stag’d in three grades,. The winners were■ as follows: —A Bendell ■ and Miss Kilham, of Railway Club; B grade, Casey and Miss Casey, ‘of Fairfield Club; C 'grade, Clark and Miss ■ Farrelly, of Hillcrest Club. The finals were played On our own courts and* some very closelycontested games' Were witnessed.

Suburban Association Courts. The courts were officially opened by His Wors'hlp the Mayor on Saturday, Deoember 19, 19'31. The attendance was good, practically every club being represented. The courts are now -in excellent cohdHfdn and are being used continuously for matches and tournaments, At the commencement Of the season a caretaker was engaged to keep, the courts In order. However, later' on in the season it was found that his services could be dispensed with and that it was necessary to employ him only at intervals. As insufficient funds were available the question of building a pavilion could not be entertained, and tfs air alternative it was decided to erect a suitable shelter. The borbugh water supply l has ’ been connected to the courts for use in the dry season. The courts were opened for winter play, but owing to Sunday play not being permissible the proposition did not get much support,
