RAGWORT MENACE.
LOCAL BODY CONTROL? COUNTY ENGINEER’S VIEW. Asked to oomment on the suggestion of Dr. C. J. Reakes, DirectorGeneral of Agriculture, that local bodies should take over the control of ragwort, Mr A. A. Woodward, engineer to the Waikato County Council, to-day expressed the opinion that the responsibility should be on the Government alone. He considered the Government, which was the biggest offender, should clear Its own land of ragwort and then compel farmers to eradicate the weed. “I believe local bodies, especially county councils, have quite enough to do to look after their present work,” he added.
