ROTORUA TOURNAMENT. EXCELLENT PLAY RECORDED. I SEMI-FINALS THIS AFTERNOON. (By Telegraph.—Special to Times.) ROTORUA, Thursday. The weather was beautiful for the continuation of the Rotorua golf tourney, competitors playing excellent golf in the championship series. J. Goss this morning beat H. Troutbeck, 2 and 1. Both players turned in fine shots, the winner being especially strong with the irons. As a result of the eliminating rounds, Goss (Wanganui), will play Tallis (Auckland) this afternoon in the semi-final, and Williams (Manawatu), will play Fryer (Napier). Morning’s Play. Goss beat Troutbeck, 2 and 1. Tallis beat Dodgshun, 2 up. Williams beat Rainger, 3 and 2. Fryer beat H. B. Lusk, i up. Thermal Cup. Murray beat Armitage, 3 and 1. Coltman beat French, 4 and 2. York beat Hussey, i up. Napier beat Louisson, 4 and 3. This afternoon, in the semi-final, Murray will play Coltman, and York will play Napier. YESTERDAY’S PLAY. THE SECOND ROUND. The following are the results of the second round played yesterday afternoon. Goss beat Glendining, 2 and 1. Troutbeck beat Hutchinson, 1 up. Dodgshun beat O’Callaghan, 5 and 4. Rainger beat Blundell, 3 and 2. Tallis beat R. C. Smith, at the 19th. Williams beat Edmonds, 1 up. Fryer beat M. D. Carr, at the 19th. H. B. Lusk beat S. E. Carr, at the 19th. A Thrilling Game. The match between Fryer (Napier) and Black (Hamilton) was full of thrills. After halving the first two, Black took four consecutive holes. Fryer gained the next two, and the 9th being halved, Black was 2 up at the turn. The match was square at the 10th. With a half needed to win, Black found the cross bunker at the 18th, and attempted to carry the green from a bad lie* His ball hit the parapet and came back, and his third was interfered with by a tree and he lost the hole. At the 19th, both had good drives. Black laid his opponent a stymie, 2ft from the hole, but Fryer chipped over him and halved the hole. At the 20th Fryer was in a bunker, and the Hamilton man was wide, with ramp between him and the pin. lie missed his chip and landed in the bunker, and, although he recovered well, could not make up the leeway. Smith, and of the second stroke handicap, D. McMillan and J. Goss. 'Pile bogey handicap was won by M. D. Carr, 4 up. LADIES’ CLUB. COURSE RECORD. Mrs F. Marnier, of the Hamilton Club, went round the course to-day in 77 —a record for ladies for the course.
