SUNDAY USE OF THEATRE. ■ “COUNCIL HAS NO JURISDICTION." A letter from the Hamilton branch of the Labour Party nvewlng Its application for the use of a looal theatre on a Sunday was considered by the Borough Council last evening. The f)eputy"Mayor (Cr. A. J. Denz) said he thought it had been made clear at the previous meeting of the oounoil that it had no jurisdiction in the matter. If the theatre proprietors wished to grant the application they could do so, and the counoll could do nothing. Therefore h.e moved the following resolution: — “That the Labour Party be Informed that the council disapproved of Sunday political meetings of any kind, but regrets that it has no jurisdiction over the letting of privatelyowned halls other than for concerts and entertainments.” The Mayor (Dr. F. D. Pinfold): The Act means that if the theatre people like to let the theatre for the meeting we have no Jurisdiction in the matter The motion was adopted.
