Nearly all the Inmates of the home for the aged at Oanton perished in floods which resulted in more than 200 deaths and 1,000,000 dollars damage to property. The rapid rise of the river was augmented by a torrential deluge which submerged many suburbs. Many lives were lost through houses collapsing and fires breaking out.
