PERSONAL.
Mr A. Dawson, chief postmaster at Wanganui, retired to-day on superannuation, after 37i years’ service in the department. Dr. D. N. Eppstein, assistant medical superintendent of the Christchurch Hospital, has resigned in order to enter into private practice. The members of the English League team who are touring New Zealand passed through Hamilton yesterday on their way to Rotorua. Superintendent J. Williams has tendered his resignation to the Wanganui Fire Board, to take effect on August 15. He Intends setting up in business in the south. Mr, C. L. Wood, of the staff of the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court, has been appointed secretary of the Auckland Mortgagors’ Adjustment Commission, and left to-day for Auckland. Messrs 11. J. Russel], A. J. Toogood, 11. Goodwin (Wellington), R. C. Lawler, C. E. ’Tomlinson (Auckland), C. A. Holes (Taurnarunui), T. A. Black (Christchurch), R. H. George (New Plymouth), and W. G. Cohen (Hastings) are at the Hamilton Hotel. In Ihe election for the Fiji Legislative Council the following European members were returned unopposed:— Sir Henry Scott and Mr Allport Barker (Southern Division), Sir Maynard Hcdstrom. (Eastern), Mr J. W. Bayly (Western), Mr Ragg (Nothcrn), and Major Willoughby Tottenham (Vanua Levu).
