Despite the fact that permission to hold a demonstration had been refused, 5,000 congregated at Railway Square by the Central Station, but the police sternly suppressed the attempt of 'tills Communists to form a procession. Several leaders were arrested amid great excitement, during which a Communist banner was torn to ribbons. Women were prominent In the disturbance.
