Air David Jones, of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, was elected chairman of a meeting m Parliament House to-day of 43 representatives of Empire primary prodUCGTS. This was the first meeting of the kind in the Empire’s history. The objeot was to arrange for the experts In the various industries to unite forthwith In discussing proposals in the hope of presenting unanimous plans to the respective delegations. Mr Jones reviewed the events leading to the conference, He emphasised the necessity for concerted action on behalf ■of the producers, and declared that the interests of the Empire must be paramount. Mr Jones moved :(i) That prices must be raised; and (2) that while tariffs might be useful, It was essential In 'oonneotion with meat and dairy produce -that a limitation on foreign imports be imposed. The first meeting of the Empire butter representatives will be held today. Mr Coates has been appointed chairman of the official Butter Committee which met to-day. There is every likelihood that Empire butter interests will reaoh unanimity enabling their proposals to be presented to the British delegation on Monday. Mr Bruce has been appointed chairman of the official Meat Committee. Method of Procedure. The Promotion of Trade Committee to-day decided upon the procedure to be followed in negotiations. First of all the official Dominion delegations will deal direct individually with the .British delegates, for the purpose of intimating the extent of the concessions each Dominion is prepared to offer. Secondly, the Dominion Ministers and their consultants and industrial advisers will meet together for each industry, with a view if possible of reaching a common agreement regarding the requests they will make to Britain. When these discussions have rej suited In definite proposals these will !be reported to the respective Do- ! minion delegations for submission to i the British delegation. Thus the Dominions will inform Britain of their maximum offers to assist the Mother* land before even asking for concessions.
