Spiers returned play. Davies had hard luck with a shot ■which skimmed the cross-bar. Haverbier and Hampton cleared to halfway, but Munro and L. Spiers gave Waikato the advantage again. Hamilton on Attack.

Froude put in a strong dash down the line, but there was no one to receive his perfect centre pass, and the ball went out of play. ■ Hamilton were having the margin of attack, Ross, Froude, Allsop and R. Spiers giving the defence an anxious time. Baddeley put Waikato on attack with a dash down the line and transferred to Finch, who, drawing Smillie out of position, scored Waikato’s second goal: Waikato 2, Hamilton 0. Waikato kept up the attack, but solid defence' of Haverbier and Pountney was instrumental in placing their van in a goaling position. Ewan used a free hit to advantage and, securing a yard from the goal, C. Spiers beat Smillie with a hard shot. Shortly after, Craig and Hammond combined effectively for the latter to net from the outskirts of the circle. Waikato kept up the pressure, and despite good work by Smillie' Hammond rushed the ball into the net to secure Waikato’s fifth goal. Hampton fed Allsop, who made things look dangerous for. the Waikato rearguard, but Richardson, who received his outside pass, lost control, and the ball went out of play as half-time was called, with the scores— Waikato .. .. . 5 Hamilton 0 Hammond replaced Richardson in the Hamilton team, the latter taking the inside-right position for Waikato. Hamilton took up the attack, and foiling the goalie, N. Ross went within an ace of scoring. Brough gave Craig a chance, and following the latter's centre pass, close play ensued before the Hamilton goal. Securing from the ruck Davies netted for Waikato with a shot which gave Smillie little chance: Waikato G, Hamilton 0. Smillie was safe in goal and ably assisted by the fullbacks was instrumental in keeping the Hamilton goal intact. Play worked to the other end of the field, but Ewan and L. Spiers frustrated all attempts to goal. N. Ross put in a strong solo Tun, but his centre pass went astray, and play returned to neutral territory, from where Hamilton and then Waikato took up. the running in turn. Richardson had hard luck with a shot, which hit the upright, but this was balanced a little later by Waikato’s ineffectual attempts to goal. Time came with the score:

Waikato 6 Hamilton 0 Messrs J. Tait and E. McLachlan had -control of the game.
