CRICKET IN ENGLAND.
TRIAL TEST MATCH. NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN TEAMS. OMISSION OF CHAPMAN CRITICISED United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received June 13, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 12. The teams for the Test trial match at Manchester on the 18th. are:— North. —Wyatt (captain), Sutcliffe, Leyland, Larwood, Voce, Keeton, Duckworth, Paynter, Sibhles, T. B. Mitchell and J. E. Timms South. —Jardine (captain), Duleepsinhji, Allen, Peebles, Allom, F. B. Brown, Woolley, Hammond, Ames, O’Connor, T. Cook, Iddon is twelfth man- for both sides. Chapman’s omission is the most surprising feature of the trial teams, which the Telegraph attributes to the selectors’ desire to give Jardine a chance of proving his mettle. The selectors know all there is to be known about Chapman. The News-Chronicle says several bodies will miss Chapman’s name. The selectors’ task must be rather difficult and delicate, but some selectors do seem to go out of their way to look for trouble. The Times cricketing editor says the notable omissions are Chapman, Robins and Tate. Keeton and Paynter thoroughly deserve their places. Walley’s selection Is interesting. Apparently Jardine will be England’s captain.
