OBITUARY.

LADY STRINGER. AUCKLAND, Monday. The death occurred at Remuera yesterday of Lady Stringer, wife of Sir Walter Stringer, at the age of 70 years. The 50th. anniversary of the wedding of Sir Walter and Lady Stringer occurred on June 1. Lady Stringer was born in Dunedin, and in 1882 she was married to Sir Walter Stringer, 'in 1914 Sir Walter was appointed Judge of the Arbitration Court. In 1921 Sir Walter came to Auckland as senior resident Judge, having been elevated to the Supreme Court Bench, and he and Lady Stringer took up their resldenoe here. Lady Stringer had lived in Auckland ever since. Shortly after Sir Walter’s retirement from the Bench in 1927 he was knighted. Lady Stringer was interested in a number of charitable organisations, particularly those dealing with the welfare of children, and also took an interest in the work of the Viotorla League, whilst she was associated with the Navy League during her resldenoe In Christchurch. Lady Stringer is survived by her husband and three sons, Mr Cyril Stringer, of Christchurch, Dr. Bruce Stringer, of Christchurch, and Mr Trevor Stringer, of Mntamata. There are several grandchildren.

MR ANDREW DOW. AUCKLAND, Monday. The death has occurred of Mr Andrew Dow, who was born at Clevedon 72 years ago. MR FREDERICK LUCAS. PUKEKOHE, Saturday. The death occurred yesterday at Punt of Mr Frederick Lucas, aged 77 years, an early settler In the Pukekohe district. MR F. ELWOOD. TE KUITI, Saturday. The death occurred suddenly yesterday morning of Mr Frank Elwood, one of the pioneer settlers of the Aria dlstrlot. He was walking to a neighbouring farm when ho suddenly collapsed and died. \ Born in London In 1855, Mr Elwood came to New Zealand as a young man. Twenty-six years ago he took up a section in the Aria district and was engaged in farming up to the time of his death. MR W. H. O’NEILL. OLD RESIDENT OF HAMILTON. A very old resident of Hamilton passed away on Saturday night in the person of Mr William Henry O’Neill, whose death occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs L. Harwood, in Forest Lake Road. Born in New South Wales in 1852, Mr O’Neill came to New Zealand with his parents 12 years later on the sailing ship Alice Convciion. The family lanued at Auckland, and came on to Hamilton, where iliey setlled. Deceased was married in 1875, his wile predeceasing him 11 years ago. In his younger days Mr O’Neill served in the constabulary and in the volunteers. He is survived by live children, Mesdames L. Harwood 1 Hamilton), W. J. Taylor (Tualcau), P. 11. Owen (Hamilton) and Messrs U.' O’Neill (Hamilton) and A. O'Neill (Kali Kati). There are nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
