ADMISSION TO UNION
WRONGFULLY REFUSED. ■> WORKERS AWARDED DAMAGES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. That plaintiffs were entitled to admission as members of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union was the decision reached by Mr Justice Ostler in a reserved judgment, delivered in the Supreme Court to-day. The actions were brought recently by Thomas Antonio Wells and George Ilardgreaves. The plaintiff an each case had been refused admission to the union, as ho claimed wrongfully, and each made a claim Tor a writ of mandamus to compel the union to admit him as a member, and also for £SO damages. John Oldham Johnson, secretary, was joined with 'the union as defendant. “In my opinion,” staled his Honour, “defendants had no legal jurisdiction for excluding the plaintiffs from membership of the union." In addition to a writ of mandamus' His Honour gave judgment for plaintiff in each case for £25 as- damages, with costs, witnesses' expenses and disbursements.
