FAMOUS CLUB TO ADMIT WOMEN By an overwhelming majority an extraordinary general meeting of the historic Royal Wimbledon Golf Club decided to elect 200 women members, with playing rights on live days a week, says a London paper. “Royal Wimbledon” has always been among the “die-hard” golf clubs thaL have declined to admit women to their club-houses.

The new scheme at Wimbledon provides for the erection of a special wing for the accommodation ot the women.

The Royal and Ancient and Sunningdale arc among famous clubs that still maintain the prohibition. Minority’s Protest. About 150 members were present at the meeting, and all but 20 voted in favour ol’ the proposal. The minority, however, demanded a poll of all members, so that voting papers will now be sent to the entire 600 for a final decision.

The feeling is strong that the meeting’s finding will be endorsed. The scheme provides for the enrolment of 200 members of the Wimbledon Ladies’ Club, who have hitherto had restricted authority to play on the course. They will pay a consolidated entrance fee of £3OO and annual subscriptions of £7 7s.
