MINING DISPUTE.
PROPOSED STOPPAGE OF WORK.
NOT FAVOURED AT WAIHI
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIHI, Friday.
A ballot taken yesterday by the Waihl Miners’ Union In connection with a proposal for a universal stoppage of work for 24 hours by unionists throughout the Dominion was defeated.
55 MEN DISMISSED. HIKURANGI COAL COMPANY. WIIANGAREI, Friday. Efforts by Mr 11. M. Rushworth, M.P., to arrange a conference between the directors of the Ililturangi Goal Company, Limited, and the llikuraugi Miners’ Union with a view to discussing the matter of the dismissal of 55 men employed by the company have been unsuccessful. The men concerned will he paid off at noon tomorrow. Of the 55 men, 37 are single and IS are married without children.
