Ing. “As the result of representations made to the Right Hon. J. G. Coates (Minister of Employment) and promises given, the strike lias been declared off,” said Mr Vella, 'the chairman of the strike 'committee later. “Wo have definitely gained a small improvement in the scale of pay, which will bn supplemented by rations, though the extent of the benefit gained will not 'be known till Mr Coates’ new grant 'comes into operation.”

A mass meeting carried votes of thanks to Mr P. Fraser, M.P., “ for the splendid way he had attended to our wants ”; to Mrs Snow, for her assistance in the soup kitchen, and to ■the Alliance of Labour and Trades Labour Council for the use of halls and services rendered.

The relief workers organisation set up during the strike has not been disbanded, owing, it was staled, to (lie relief operations still being carried on.
