CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB LOSS ON YEAR’S WORKING. The report of the committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club, to be presented at the annual meeting of members on May 25, states that, considering the financial stringe"'-'-. |h- --’'"’s operations showed a fairly satisfactory result, which, however, had been achieved largely at the sacrifice of owners. To meet an anticipated decline in revenue stakes were reduced by £11,515, nnd a reduction was made In all other items of expenditure, the result being a small loss on the year.

The balance-sheet shows that at April 30 last year the balance due to the bank was £16,201, and this year the amount was £16,439. The principal receipts were:—Subscriptions, £2056; nominations, £5060; stands and gates, £54 39; privileges, £2495: totalizator, £27,701 Its 7d; training fees, £306. On the expenditure side the main items included :—Stakes, £21.435; salaries, £1783; wages, £2373; attendance at meetings, £2855; racecourse maintenance, £997; donations, £l3l ; In forest account, £850; Government taxes. £25,173 (totallsaInr £12,302, dividends £10,763, stakes £lO7l. amusements £lOlB, land tax £ls, income tax £6); less recovered from owners nnd dividends, £11,835; balance, £13,343; rates, taxes, and Insurances, £1312; general expenses, £363.

The assets total £103,925, made up of railway land, £501; new land account. £857; grandstands, etc., less depreciation, £34,050; furniture and plant. £34a 9 ; water supply, £460; automatic totalisator, £9382: property account. £SO 17: sundry debtors, £2 16, The liabilities total £24.539 17s 6d (forfeits for future events, £4; stand subscribers, £3 100; and balance due to bank, £16,439).

HORSES FOR SYDMRY. WELLINGTON, Friday. Two more New Zealand horses left for Sydney to-day by the Mamma. Mr J. Corcoran sent Havering over to enter the stable of G. Price. Mr T. Dwan sent over Ephialtes, who was consigned to Messrs Chisholm and Company.
