It is now computed that only 36 of the passengers and crew of the illfated Georges Phillipar are missing, and survivors at Djibouti say that some of these may yet be accounted for as a lifeboat capsized near Cape Guardafui, and the calm sea may have enabled some of the occupants to reach the shore.
The Georges Philippnr. which drifted IGO miles before foundering, had on board gold ingots worth £30,000 from Colombo. She was gutted fore and aft, and no wreckage was left afloat. The fierce heat prevented the salvage tug Preserver from taking hold.
Thirty-six are now computed missing.
