OXLEY DEFEATS CROWLEY,
IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ® PAIIIATUA, Saturday
- It was- a case of pupil -showing his master last night, when Ted Oxley (Pahiatua), fist 7 Alb, completely overshadowed his former mentor, Jack Crowley (Wellington), fist, '6lb, in a professional boxing contest of ten •rounds, before a packed audience. Oxley broke a bone in his left hand at the start of the second round, and relied on his right, which put Crowley down in the fourth round, and thereafter Crowley was sent to the canvas no fewer than six times, until the ninth. Only his gameness and fighting Instinct kept him on his feet. In reply to the referee’s query, Crowley at last cried “enough," -and collapsed in his corner from exhaustion.
•Oxley's 'technical knock-out in the •ninth round was an impressive performance under the circumstances.
