STAR WANTS [WORE MONEY. WILL NOT GO TO ENGLAND. Victor McLaglen is not to come to London to play the leading part in the talking picture adaptation of Mr Jeffery Farnol's “The Broad Highway” (says a London paper). .Mr McLaglen accepted the leading part at a salary of £IOOO a week, it was intended to begin production early in .Tune, and Mr Jack Raymond, a him director, left London for Hollywood to consult Mr McLaglen. A few days ago Mr Raymond cabled to Mr Herbert Wilcox, production supervisor of British and Dominions Films, that he had found Mr McLaglen “very diltieull,” adding that he wanted lo change .Mr Farnol’s story. Shortly afterwards Mr McLaglen cabled saying that without his own scenario writer he could not come lo England.
The next episode was a cable from Mr Raymond saying that Mr McLaglen’s scenario writer would want £2OOO for his scenario and £IOO a week. Mr Wilcox replied that the proposilion meant 1 hat the production had heller be called off.
“1 will make a bilking picture adaptation of ‘The Broad Highway’ this year, as soon as 1 can find an English actor to [day the part,” said Mr Wilcox.
