The Court of Honour decided to start our parades at a quarter to seven instead of seven o’clock, as wo bud been doing before. PATROL LEADERS' TRAINING CLASS. THE CHIEF SCOUT’S ADVICE.

(Reprinted by Special Permission to the “Waikato Times” from the Chief Scout.)

“I am glad to see that besides having a tremendous lot of camps this yaer. Scouts have been holding athletic sports much more than they used to. I hope this will bring out a lot of good runners and jumpers among us In the next few seasons. “One thing I don’t like about sports is that there are too many prizes given for single events. I much prerer to see prizes go to teams. In this way everybody gets a look In, Instead of the few brilliant ones who win everything and don’t give the moderate chap a chance. “So, Courts or Honour, when you are arranging your athletic sports, please bear this in mind. Well, then, you rellows who are going in for the competitions (I don’t say Tor the prizes—the competitions are the Tun) you should take some pains about training yourselves. “Don’t forget that a boy has not got all bis muscles and inside apparatus readymade like a man; be has got to develop them, and this can only be done properly by slow and steady practice. “Very many fellows leave it till a few days before the races, and then do an extra amount of running to get themselves fit. This is not only useless but it is often dangerous—the extra strain put on your heart and lungs very often does damage in a few hours that will not be set right for years. “A Scout, as I have said before, Is not a Tool. So he will try to do the thing in the right way so that he may make himself sound and strong, and a really useful member of bis team,”

us a lot of lessons. One was that our sins will llnd us out! That is, that wa cannot get away with granny knots! Even some of the “ignorant” public know a reef when they see one. Others also learnt that our motto “Be Prepared” is not just ornamental. Others, 1 hope, will learn to carry out the Fifth Law and not] let their brother Scout down.
