COMPETITION WINNERS, HAMILTON CLUB CELEBRATES. SEASON’S GOOD ATTAINMENT. Players and supporters of the Hamilton Cricket Club, as well as members of other local elevens, met at a smoke concert in the Wattle Tea Rooms last night to celebrate the winning of the senior grade of the South Auckland Cricket Association's competitions of 1931-32. Mr A. E. Sandford president of the club, was in the chair. After “The King” had been honoured, Mr N. Winger proposed the toast of the “mother" association. He paid a tribute to the efficiency of the management committee, whose many responsibilities, although difficult, had been ably executed. “Cricket is a great game and stands for all that is manly In our race," said Mr A. E. Gibbons, in reply. A big incentive to the younger players, he considered, would be tours, which he hoped would be inaugurated in the near future. As possessors of the Hawke Cup, the association had made vigorous attempts to arrange tours among the minor associations, but so far these efforts had not met with any great success. “It is pleasing to see such a large muster of junior players,” concluded Mr Gibbons. When such a position is in evidence the welfare of senior cricket in Hamilton is assured." IVIr A. Taylor Honoured. A tribute to Mr A. Taylor, captain of the Hamilton team, was paid by Mr K. Smith, who proposed the toast of the winning team. There is no man, he said, to whom the association owes a greater debt for the advancement of cricket in the Waikato. “In calling upon Mr Taylor to reply," said the president. “I wish to present one of the best sportsmen on and off the field that one could find." A tumultuous reception was accorded Mr Taylor as he rose to reply and musical honours were accorded him. During the evening two cups presented by Mr A. E. Sandford, for competition among members of the junior team were presented to T. Elrick and D. Buisson by the Mayor (Dr, F. D. Pinfold). Other Toasts. Other toasts honoured w'ere: “Other Competitors," proposed by Mr J. B. Pomeroy, replied to by R. Johnson, and “The President (Mr A. E. Sandford),’’ proposed by Mr T. Campbell, replied to by Mr A. E. Sandford. An excellent programme was rendered as follows: Songs, Messrs H. Saunders, Iv. P. Eade, A. Grant, and J. Creamer; humour, Mr P. Evans; violin solos, Mr T. Janeway; tap-danc-ing, Mr S. Edwards; humorous songs. Mr T. Greenin. Mr F. W. Harrisoa was the accompanist.
