; THE WAIKATO MEETING. TRAINING AT TE RAPA. HISTORIC IS SPRINTED. There were a few gallops at Te Rapa this morning by horses engaged at the Waikato meeting to-morrow. The poles were out 60ft from the rails on the course proper. Princess Bede (Green) ran three furlongs comfortably in 40s. The Catmint-Lady Bede mare has worked well tiiis week. Historic, with a feather-weight in the saddle, and Make Up (Drinkwater) covered five furlongs in 1.9 1-5, finishing on terms. The former will be suited by the long straight in the sprint engagement to-morrow. The Fairfield Handicap candidate Pelting (Green) got to the end of three furlongs in 39 3-ss. Phenomenon (Mclnally) defeated Reclaimer (Green) over half a mile in 555. W. J. Bowden will not be available to ride Wiltshire in the steeplechase, and J. Mcßae or R. C. Miles will have the mount. Little Doubt is to start in the Winter Handicap to-morrow. B. H. Morris is to ride the Taranaki galloper. K. Yoilro will pilot Royal Doulton in the same race. < Prince of Orange (Walters) was not required to give of his best in running seven furlongs in 1.48. The Valkyrian gelding hears a bright appearance. Speedrnint (Drinkwater) and Marshland (Walters) galloped four furlongs. Marshland, who had the inside running, was well clear into the straight, but Speedrnint finished on solidly to get within half a length of her companion. The time was 53 i-ss, SCRATCHINQS ANNOUNCED. APPLEDORE AND MAKE UP. Appledore was scratched for the Whitiora Hack Handicap and the Horotiu Handicap, and Make Up for the Open Hurdles, at 1 p.m. to-day. Blue Bonnet was scratched at 1.50 p.m. for his engagement in the Maiden Hurdle Race Handicap.
