CARNEGIE CORPORATION GRANT. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. It was announced at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute to-day that the Carnegie Corporation, New York, had granted £2OO toward the institute’s publication expenses. It was decided after a keen discussion that the present election to fellowship was not satisfactory, and should be abolished. In future nominations are to be made annually byincorporated societies, without nominees being informed of their nomination. Nominations are to he submitted to a special committee, which shall recommend to the Board of Governors those who should be invited to accept fellowship. The formation of a National Research Council was decided on. As a nucleus of the council the institute will appoint five men, who must be of recognised scientific, attainments and thoroughly representative. The following oillccrs were elected:—President, Professor 11. W. Segar (Auckland) ; vice-president, Mr B. C. Aston (Wellington) ; treasurer, Mr M. A. Eliott (Palmerston North); editor and librarian, Professor D. M. Y. Soinmerville (Wellington) ; representative on the New Zealand Institutcjof Horticulture, Mr B. G. Aston; representative on the Great Barrier Reef Committee, Mr W. R. B. Oliver (Wellington).
