RUMOURS REFUTED. STATEMENT BY 4 PREMIER. REVIVAL IN INDUSTRY. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received May 20, 10.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 20. Mr B. S. Stevens, the Premier, announced that if the present Got eminent were returned the Ministry did not intend to reduce the basic wage as alleged by its opponents. fl'he reproductive works for the relief of unemployment would begin on Monday. The Government intends to review the appointments of the Conciliation •committees, from which Mr Lang’s administration had excluded the Australian Workers’ Union representatives, and those of other unions which arc not connected with the Trades Hall. Renewed confidence lias been manifested in industry since the change of Government. The works of the Standard Portland Cement Company will reopen immediately. Employment will thus be found for about 300 men. Three patriotic citizens have forwarded cinques for £SOO, £IOO and £SO respectively to the Premier and treasurer to be used by the Government as a free man until such time as iL can be appliea towards the payment of taxes due.
