AUSTRALIAN SWINDLED

Mr James Watson, aged 65, a wealthy Australian sheepfarmer, informed the Paris police to-day that confidence tricksters had swindled him out of £40,000. Tho victim said he met a man who styled himself James Coaten, and said he was a Canadian banker. This man Introduced an “American financier” named Jamieson to Mr Watson, who accepted Jamison’s invitation to Join Coaten and him in a deal in exchange involving £40,000. Each of the three was to contribute £BO,OOO, tho money lo be deposited in a broker’s office. Mr Watson had £40,000 sent lo him from a London banlc and handed it over. Jamieson then said lie had to go to Genoa on business and Coaten disappeared in a railway station. Neither lias been seen since.
