CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES. At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge Borough Council there were present the Mayor (Mr C. 11. Priestley) and Crs. \V. Moore, C. Boyce, A. Wilkinson, G. W. Clark, T. F. Richards, T. Kelly, H. Alan Bell, George Calvert and M. Wells. „ _. The clerk, No. 3 Heavy Traffic Distrist, wrote asking if the council was prepared to accept the magistrate s order allocating the fees received from the period March, 1929, to Mai, j 930, as the basis ol apportionment ■for the 12 months ending May 31, 1932. . . , In the order for the earlier period the borough retained 55 per cent. The clerk stated that Hie council collected about £250 a year and received back about £l4O. The council agreed to the proposal. Competitions Socloty. 'Plie secretary, Cambridge Competitions Society, wrote requesting _ Hie council to consider a reduction ol the charges for the use of the Town llall for the annual festival. The clerk advised that last year the society paid £23 for a season of live nights. It, was agreed to reduce the rental by £3. The commit lee, of Hie Municipal Baud requested Hie council lo appoint a representative on the Hand ConimilUui In nla.ee of Mr F. Penn.
Cr. Clark was appointed representative along with the Mayor. The Gasworks. In tho course of consideration of the engineer’s report the Mayor said hehad been giving the gasworks serious thought of late, and had come to the opinion that considering the amount of money involved, and in view of competition, it was time they got an outside report on the whole plant and system, including the method of making the gas. They were constantly repairing pipes and just as constantly consumers were complaining at the quality of the gas. Cr. Wilkinson strongly supported the Mayor, who further mentioned that he had his suspicions of the exhauster gas plant, lie had been informed by an authority that exhauster gas had had a deteriorating effect on the meters. Cr. Wilkinson: Yes, and it has no healing value. It was decided to get a qualified engineer to make a report. Small Farm Scheme. The Mayor reported that Mr James Taylor, of “Hardowie,” had decided to offer all of his “llardmvie” property, with the exception of (it) acres, including the homestead, la the.
