COMMERCE CHAMBER.

MEETING AT MORRINSVILLE. OBJECTS OF BODY OUTLINED. The president (Mr W. Hetherington) presided at the May meeting of the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce. The Associated Chambers of Commerce advised the council that owing to the need for providing some £2OOO they were making a special appeal to the different branches for funds. After the secretary had reported on the financial position of the chamber it was decided that the Associated Chambers be advised that funds would not permit of more than the the levy of 2s 6d a member being paid. The secretary reported that only 14 members had paid their subscriptions, and the total might he increased to 20. This would provide only enough to cover affiliation fees and ordinary expenses. Messrs F. Dew-hirst, manager of the Morrinsville branch of the Bank of New Zealand, and A- A. French were elected members. Mi- Cummer called attention to the fact that some people were doing harm to the chamber by misrepresenting ils objects. In reality the chamber was in existence lo receive and collect information Regarding all public acts and other matters affecting the interests of Ihe town and adjoining districts, with a view to renio\al of evils, redress of grievances, the promotion of trade and the public good.
