FARMERS’ UNION.

WOMEN’S DIVISION

HAMILTON BRANCH. . ' The monthly meeting of the Hamilton branch was held on Tuesday, May 3. Mrs Judd presiding over a large attendance and welcoming many new members. Much time was devoted to making arrangements for the stall which our Hamilton branch is holding during Show Week. The organisation of this Is in the capable hands of Mrs Courtney and the money gained is for our branch fund. Much of this Is used for charitable purposes, country appeals coming from far afield to our branch. Preparations for the South Auckland Provincial “Use More Wool” display are being actively carried on. Mrs Judd reported that those in authority at Hamilton Technical High School were in sympathy with this movement and Miss Noble 'had promised to help with various exhibits and possibly demonstrations which would assist us greatly. It was suggested that a knitting machine demonstration would be interesting and of practical’value and it was left to Mrs Minchin to arrange this if an operator was available.

A change Is to be made In the programme of our monthly meetings In hopes of making them more convenl-

ent for members who must leave early. In future the meetings will commence at 11.45 a.m. with a luncheon adjournment between 12. and 1 o’clock. This hour Is to be devoted to the serving of refreshments, trading at the market table and soolal Intercourse. Business will ‘then be resumed without further interruption. A Provincial Council Conference is to be held next t Tuesday, 10th inst. In the Y.M.C.A.' rooms beginning at 10 a.m. when visiting delegates will attend from all branches of our province. All members interested may attend this conference though obly delegates may vote on the subjects under discussion. As our branch has undertaken to serve light refreshments to the visitors we would be glad of the assistance of all our members who are able to help. The question of whether we would be able to assist the Y.M.C.A. in their coming queen carnival was the last for discussion and was decided in the affirmative. At its next meeting the junior branch is to choose a candidate from among its members for the position of country queen. This is being undertaken to show appreciation for the help the Y.M.C.A. have given and are willing to continue giving to our country gfrls and boys. Thrift exhibits shown by Miss Gibson and specimens of laminated wool were handed round the members during the meeting and all were interested in the articles displayed.

Mrs Allen gave a lectnrette on “First Aid Hints” while tho girls experimented with the arranging of flowers In posies and vases. Miss Violet McAuliffe gave an interesting demonstration on organdie petal work which was much appreciated. A competiton followed which was won by Violet with Irene Raynes as second.

A discussion on tho raising of funds followed and it was decided to accept Mrs Judd's offer of a spare on the Hamilton Women’s Division stall for the disposal of junior branch goods. Junior members promised to assist in running the stall. To gain more money members undertook In dress a doll and offer it as a prize for a guessing competition.
