SHOW COMPETITIONS.
MUSIC, ELOCUTION AND DANCING COMPREHENSIVE SCHEDULE Although in past years It has been customary for entertainment in the form of vocal, instrumental and dancing items to be provided for patron? at the Waikato Winter Show, the association has net previously held musical, elooutionary and dancing competitions such as are proposed for this year’s show, and considerable Interest has been aroused in the innovation. The competitions schedule, which is available on application to •the secretary, Mr W. H. Paul, Includes a comprehensive list of classes, catering for performers of all ages and both sexes. The programme will be commenced in the Winter Show ■concert hail on Wednesday, June 1, the second day of the show, and will conclude on the following Friday, ■after which a prize-winners’ concert is to be held. Entries in all classes close with the secretary on Saturday, May 14. Competitors may provide their own accompanists, but a pianist will be available for any who may require such services. In the elocutionary section provision is made for recitations, character sketohes, Shakespearean recitals, •monologues and impromptu speeches, the classes generally being divided into two sections, one for boys and girls under 16 years, and the second open.
All voices are inoludod in the vooal classes, while in the instrumental section there will be pianoforte solos and ducts, and violin solos. Tho dancing classes include both national and operatic. The decision of tho Show Association to inaugurate the competitions will he welcomed by performers throughout the district, and it is probable that large entries will be reoeived.
