TREADING THE WINEPRESS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Your correspondent from Puahue is determined to remain uninformed. Evidently he is a close, relative to the man he himself mentioned, who' refused to be convinced by irrefutable evidence, but adhered to his prejudices and ignored the facts. Your correspondent must grasp the truth that a pill will not cure an earthquake, though it may have the effect of dulling wits. I have endeavoured to demonstrate to him that an international ailment needs international treatment, a contention which should be patent to anyone. Evidently the air of Puahue tends to stubbornness. —I am, etc., E. D. EWINSSON.
