SEVERE WEATHER.

HAWKE’S BAY DISTRICT. FURTHER FLOODING FEARED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Monday. The danger of further flooding in northern and central Hawke’s Bay is feared. There was heavy rain last night and the sky is extremely threatening. The fears of settlers will not be allayed till there is a definite change in the weather. The cessation of rain for a few hours yesterday brought much relief and allowed stock to be removed and waters to subside. The three rivers and tributary streams this morning had dropped a good deal. Access to Hastings and Napier from the north is still interrupted. The road to Wairoa is open, but it is not certain whether the road can bo kept clear. The present prospects of a change in the weather are not reassuring. SERIOUS DAMAGE TO ROADS. FARMERS’ HEAVY LOSSES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Monday. Conditions in the districts affected by the flooding Ngaruroro and Tutaekuri Rivers moderated to-day. Compared with Saturday the levels of both rivers dropped considerably. The rain has eased off, though the fall Is still steady, and there is little sign of the weather breaking. The flood waters have been responsible for heavy damage to highways. Two rural bridges have been lost, while the road surfaces have been affected by the action of the water. Road communication between Napier and Wairoa and Napier and Taupo is still cut off, though it is hoped lo have subsidiary roads open to both routes to-night. Farmers in many parts of the district. suffered heavily through the loss of fences. No estimate of the loss of stock in the outlying districts is yet available.
